Research shows there's a big Oranje fanbase situated in Indonesia. There are several reasons for this fanbase: the historical relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia, former Oranje players with Indonesian roots (Giovanni van Bronckhorst, John Heitinga, Danny Landzaat) and the way we play. Since Indonesia has showed their support for many years already, the KNVB wants to give something back to these fans and included them in their new international (fan) strategy.
The KNVB wants to inspire and touch the hearts of the Indonesian Oranjefans with Oranje for many more years and, by doing that, stay ‘second favourite team’ of the Indonesian football fans. To stay the 'second favourite team' of Indonesian football fans the KNVB will create tailoring content and marketing activities for local fans throughout Indonesia.
The KNVB started in 2021 with the execution of the international strategy. They launched an Instagram page @Oranje_Indonesia for all Indonesian Oranjefans in their own language (Bahasa), created local content with local (Dutch) football players and organized several fan events and football clinics throughout the country.

In 2022, the World Cup year, the KNVB will organize more activities and create more local content which is relevant for the Indonesian fans. With this, the KNVB hopes to inspire footballfans in Indonesia to support Oranje once again at an end tournament as their 'second favourite team'.
