Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany are joint candidates to host the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. To this end, the football associations and governments of the three countries are working closely together on the so-called World Cup bid to be submitted to World Football Federation FIFA. In this, the KNVB has taken another step forward. It is now known with which possible Dutch playing cities this process will be continued:
The possible host cities in Germany are Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne. In Belgium, a choice will be made at a later date. The possible venues of, for example, the opening match and the final have yet to be determined as well.
In addition to the 'BNG' bid, Brazil, South Africa and the US/Mexico combination have also applied to host the 2027 World Cup. Next May's FIFA Congress will make a final decision on where the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup will take place.
'After the Netherlands won the European Championship in 2017, women's football received a huge boost in our country: more interest from the general public, more professional support and an annual increase in the number of female football players. By hosting the World Cup ten years later, we want to take another step for women's football. Recently, we noticed more and more that this desire is widely shared. Not only by our colleagues in Belgium and Germany, but at home there is also great enthusiasm from government, politics, cities, stadiums and football fans,' said Gijs de Jong, secretary-general of the KNVB.
The Heads of Government Alexander De Croo (Belgium), Mark Rutte (Netherlands) and Olaf Scholz (Germany) support the bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
